Since 1900

We are synonymous with experience, quality, and reliability.

Our extensive experience in the industry, the widest selection of materials, and our longstanding technical expertise allow us to manage work projects through every phase, from surveying and design to execution and delivery.

Automated Production Process

Based on the most sophisticated machinery, it meets even the most complex demands. Founded by Cav. Giuseppe Vella, the company is now led by the founder’s descendants—his grandson and two sons.

Family Continuity as an Added Value

Guaranteeing a deep-rooted ability to execute and a passion that has been passed down through generations for over 100 years.

Throughout its history, the company has consistently pursued excellence in quality standards, applied to projects of every type.

Who we are

Our Story

The Origins and Immigration to the United States

In 1890, Giuseppe Vella emigrated to the United States with the dream of making his fortune and then bringing his acquired knowledge back to his homeland. With extraordinary adaptability, he became a cattle rancher and gold prospector; fortune smiled upon him as he found some nuggets, allowing him to return to Italy and, in 1900, establish the company that still bears his name.

Initially, the company focused on the extraction of only Sienite della Balma and its transformation into hand-crafted products. These were the years of the stonemasons, where the only technological aids for this hard work were hammer and chisel.

His relentless work earned him the prestigious title of knight in 1936, while his entrepreneurial drive allowed the business to thrive and spread the Sienite della Balma nationwide.

In 1925, Giuseppe’s son, Egidio, married Wally Adami, a member of the family managing one of the most important granite quarries on Lake Maggiore at the time, known through business relationships between the two companies.

The Second Generation and Industrialization

In 1927, Egidio joined the company, and his foresight led to the relocation of the company’s headquarters from Balma to Andorno Micca in 1951.

Egidio recognized the need to give a strong industrial imprint to a work that had been almost exclusively manual until that time.

He created a plant that would serve as a model for many years, visited by competitors who, with the humility of the time, looked at him and his creation with respect and reverence, considering it more of an example to emulate than an opponent to defeat.

Time rewarded him for his enterprising spirit and initiative: prestigious commissions followed, such as the statue of Saint Michael the Archangel for the cemetery in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A., and the colossal headquarters of Banca Popolare di Novara in Novara.

From Prestigious Commissions to the First Expansion

The plants were the most advanced of the time in the early 1950s.

With the rapid progress of technology, the machinery still needed to be replaced to adapt to the most advanced and efficient production methods, a process that required continuous investment and a vision projected into the future.

In 1950, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of its foundation, Vella Graniti was awarded a gold medal by the Chamber of Commerce of Vercelli for its contribution to economic progress and dedication to work.

Continuous evolution was a cornerstone of the mentality of Cav. Egidio, and the constant introduction of new and more efficient machinery and the expansion of the plant in 1958 were proof of this.

The third generation and new technologies

Since 1968, management has passed into the hands of Egidio’s son, Giuseppe, who, aware of the important legacy received, still leads the family business with deep respect for the roots and renewed attention to the innovations that technology brings with it.

Under his management, the expansion of the plant was carried out in 1990, and the most advanced machinery available on the market was also introduced: from the multi-blade frame to computerized cutters, from the belt polisher to the numerically controlled work center. The CNC represents the highest point of technology applied today to this sector, with its 5 interpolated axes that allow extremely precise machining on large pieces.

The fourth generation and environmental issues

In 2000, the purification plant for water recycling was installed, in order to eliminate the consumption of drinking water for the processing cycles and the consequent environmental impact of the process.

Since 2011, a photovoltaic system has been in operation for the production of 80 Kwp, which allows the reduction of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, in the amount of 62,325.00 Kg per year for CO2 and 139.00 Kg per year for NOX

This also results in a decrease in the consumption of fossil fuels, which in particular stands at 21.3 Tep (Tons of oil equivalent) per year.

Since 2019, Vella Graniti has been a partner of Rete Irene, the first network of companies in Italy for the energy requalification of buildings, with the primary objective of regenerating the existing building heritage in order to make it energy efficient, drastically reducing consumption, while equally reducing the production of emissions into the atmosphere.

Giuseppe Vella is now supported by his two sons, Alessandro and Federico, who represent the fourth generation of the family at the helm of the company.
