Producing while protecting the environment

Giuseppe Vella is now supported by his two sons, Alessandro and Federico, who immediately understood the importance of environmental sustainability, with a view to preparing the company for the growing demands for reducing environmental impact.

Over the past two decades, the company has included a series of initiatives aimed at reducing the ecological footprint in the manufacturing of manufactured goods within its development program.

Since 2019, Vella Graniti has been a partner of Rete Irene, a company for the energy requalification of buildings; hence the development of insulated marble and granite solutions for thermal insulation.

For water recycling

Sewage treatment plant

In 2000, the purification plant for water recycling was installed, in order to minimize the consumption of drinking water for the processing cycles.

Working with marble requires the use of large quantities of water, particularly to remove dust and to cool the tools.

The purification plant for water recycling is composed of:

  • Water collection system: the water used during processing is collected and transferred to the silos for subsequent treatment.
  • Decantation and treatment system: the dirty water is treated with coagulant and left to settle, so that the muddy parts settle on the bottom of the silos; the clear water in the upper part is reused in the production process.
  • Filtration system: the muddy part is filtered by passing at high pressure through filtering elements; in this way, 30% of the water can be recovered for each part of filtered mud.

To reduce consumption

Photovoltaic system

Since 2011, the photovoltaic system has been in operation for the production of 80 Kwp, which allows the reduction of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, in the amount of 62,325.00 Kg per year for CO2 and 139.00 Kg per year for NOX.

This also results in a decrease in the consumption of fossil fuels, which in particular stands at 21.3 TOE (tons of oil equivalent) per year.

Valle Cervo Energy Community

Energy Independence

In 2024, we founded, among the first at a national level, a renewable energy community, to achieve the decarbonization objectives set for 2030 and strengthen Italy’s energy security path by enhancing the territory. The members of the community are thus able to self-produce the electricity they need from renewable sources, thanks to the installation of a photovoltaic system with a power of approximately 500 kW. “Energy communities are a tool that the government makes available to Italy to increase renewables, reduce emissions and the costs of bills for millions of citizens, families and businesses. Let’s give new energy to Italy!”

For a circular economy

Transformation of scraps

Vella Graniti recycles production waste, selecting and grinding it, making it suitable for the production of agglomerates; in this way waste is also reduced, thus giving life to a circular economy.
